My name is Josh Brown, and I’m a freelance writer/critic-type person trying to make a living lounging around on the internet. Yes, that’s right, I’m one of those “millennials” society hates.
I’m in my mid-twenties and have been slinging words across all manner of websites for years now; from a pet project with a friend back in high school, to places like Trusted Reviews, PC Gamer, and Computer Shopper a little while after.
But scouting out paid work in this field isn’t easy, and not every site wants what every person can offer. That’s why I’m trying my hand on a more personal project; this website!
JoshJudges is a personal excuse to put some of my reviews, opinion pieces, and pointless mumblings to use without banking on the commissioning editor of a place like Kotaku (one day!) to pay me for my work. Not only does this site allow me to publish what I want when I want, but it also houses an archive of work I was hired to write elsewhere. It’s like a reference point for any hiring editors out there rightfully questioning my validity as a journalist.
The main page of this website is where you’ll find my blog, so expect reviews, lists, opinion pieces, and other related ramblings there at least once a week. If you’ve clicked through here to vet me for some paid work, you can look through a mismatched archive of my past on the appropriately named “Archives” page.
So what will I be writing about here, then anyway? Anything you might consider “geeky”, really! Video games, tech, anime/manga, and movies are all my “beat”; and there’s rarely a time I’m not rushing to put one behind me to jump into the next.
At the end of the day, though, I still need to pay the bills, so expect to find a few articles strewn around here that have been carefully constructed with affiliate links in mind. This isn’t some “get rich quick” scheme or anything, but the volatile nature of the game journalism market isn’t the most reliable source of income in the world. So if I can put my knowledge to good use and make a buck or two in the process, I’m certainly not going to say no.
Let’s just see how far we get.
